Prunes

10/06/2013

Prunes

Prunes are a special type of dried plum. The plums are oval, black-skinned, loose-stoned and very sweet. They can be dried or semi-dried and the most famous variety is Prunes d’Agen.

I expect we have all experienced prunes in our life, certainly prunes and custard were one of the staple school dinner puddings. That experience may have put you off ever trying them again, which if so is a shame as they are considered one of the healthiest foods there is, including their ability to provide antioxidant protection, prevent pre-mature ageing, promote cardiovascular health, reduce the risk of cancer and osteoporosis and their ability to relieve constipation. They also have excellent nutritional value.

For full details of their healthy appeal visit Heal with Food.

So why not try out some of the many recipes available from the BBC website at BBC
